A few weeks ago, my friend Laureen, a wedding planner herself, reached out to me on a Monday. An acquaintance of hers was getting married at the courthouse that Friday, and she wanted to know if Laureen knew of anyone who did pictures of those kinds of weddings. Laureen asked if I was available and could work with her. UM... YES.
Fast foward to Friday (yes, just 4 days later!). Since no photography is allowed in the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Courthouse (boo), I waited outside the doors to meet Shannon & Paul. They walked out with Paul's lovely mother, all smiles. Yay for being married! We made a stop by the courthouse restrooms to freshen up, then right outside to start the pictures. It's surprising sometimes where you can make good pictures. The perception is often that the scenery has to be momentous and perfect. And while I adore an amazing mountainside or lovely garden, sometimes you can get great pictures just by using what's around. That's what I like to do at the courthouse! There are some surprising spots to capture great moments. We started at the pillars just outside.
Look at that gorgeous couple! Next, we walked around the building capturing some great tucked away spots.
One of my personal favorite hidden gems is this fantastic staircase. And these two have perfected the dip! (Apparently, though, this has come with much practice and at least one injury, something about a broken toe...)
Next, we headed to the more obviously beautiful area around the courthouse. Did you know there was an awesome park right behind the Mecklenburg County Courthouse? It's not super obvious, unless you've spent a lot of time walking around there.
There are so many fun areas of this park to explore. The blooms were out in all their glory, and the ducks and geese were hanging around enjoying the show. Side note: I'm a little terrified of geese. But that's a story for another day.
I think I laughed more with Shannon & Paul than I've laughed in a long time. There were times I had to put my camera down, because I was doubled over with laughter. That's when you know it's a good session. :)
CHECK OUT THAT SKYLINE!!!!
And there's that dip again!
Shannon told me that she and Paul knew what was important to them. They have a lot going on in their lives, buying a house, a family in the future, and life! They will be celebrating with friends and family later on this year, but they knew they wanted to capture this precious day, the ACTUAL day of their wedding, to save these memories. I'm so glad Laureen connected us, and I'm so glad I get to share this with you!
Until next time,
