5 Tips for Taking Pictures During the Summer

Summer is here and so is wedding season! We wanted to share some helpful tips on taking pictures while that beautiful sunshine caresses our faces with its hot rays. ;)

Hydrate!

With hotter temps and higher humidity, it’s likely you’re going to at least sweat a little bit. It’s important to stay hydrated while you’re taking photos, so be sure to bring plenty of water! We can’t have you passing out on us, can we?!

Keep the Sweat to a Minimum

Bringing a towel with you to wipe any extra glistening goodness off while in between photos. Unless you’re going for the extra glowing god/goddess vibe, then let that sweat pour! ;)

Make Your Makeup Behave

No one loves a melty face on their wedding day! If you just so happen to be rocking a full face, if you have the ability, bring extra makeup in case of any smudges. -OR- If you’ve gotten your makeup done professionally, let them know you plan on being outside and request an extra effective setting spray. Oh, and bring some blotting sheets. Those help immensely!

Bring Salty Snacks

When you’re sweating, you’re also losing sodium from your body. Snacks like chips, pretzels or salted nuts can help replenish any you lose to help keep you going! Also, let’s be honest, it’s just nice to have a snack mid-session sometimes.

Have a Good Attitude!

Remember why you’re out taking photos in the first place—to celebrate something special! It’s easy to allow the heat to get to you sometimes, but when you look back on your wedding photos, you’ll want to remember the happy memories you created instead of crotchety faces. If you’re feeling the cranky monster creeping in, just think about how much you heckin’ love your partner! And if you at any point need to take a break, let us know. Sometimes all you need is a quick breather to keep on going!

BONUS: A Sneaky Tip!

This one was given to use by one of our own clients: Soak a couple washcloths and put them in the freezer the night before. Then the day of, bring along a small cooler with some cold waters and those washcloths to pat down and cool yourself. Or, if you want to get even fancier, order one of the neck coolers meant for this purpose. A little bit of cold to the neck and forehead can go a long way!
